MIT: McCowan Infrastructure for Technology

Key Area IV: Infrastructure (Advanced Tech Status) There are 4 or less students per computer. There is direct connectivity to internet in 75% of classrooms and library. Web-based learning is available. All rooms are on LAN/WAN. There is one educatorper computer. There is shared use of other resources.

Progress in Infrastructure De Soto ISD has invested heavily in the technology field to ensure our students, faculty, and staff have access to the latest technology available. I work at one of the newest campuses in the district and we are thoroughly equipped with the technology needed to engage all learners- the young and the old. McCowan is going into it's third year in existance, so the capacity for technology was built-in. That is one of the reasons I wanted to go there. I was excited about the opportunity to actively participate in selecting some 0f the technology that was made available to the students and staff. Compared to the statewide summary, we are among the 4,370 or 57% of schools which possess this advanced technology. Compared to the nation, we did equally as well.

Trends in the area McCowan Middle School is current with the technological advances of other middle school campuses in the area. Compared to the state and national trends, we are quite competitive and progressive. As stated above we hold an advanced status on the LRPT.

Recommendations for improvement in the area De Soto has shown its stakeholders that no pain will be spared to make sure our students are capable, competitive global citizens with access to all of the necessary and latest advancements in technology. I must say that on campus, our administration and instructional support has been over-the-top in getting us- the classroom teachers- trainned and prepared for the task ahead of us. At McCowan, we are eagerly applying the information and technology with the support of campus and district administration. I have every confidence that we will achieve Target Tech this academic year! Rock on De Soto!
